Getreidegasse

The city center of Salzburg is a well known place of beauty. Wonderful squares and many churches create this certain athmosphere of Salzburg.

A few months ago I decided to write articles about Salzburg in English language. I start today and it should improve my knowledge of English. I tell stories about a city which could be found in books and brochures. This information is presented with pictures and structured like guided tours.

We walk together along the sights of the city.

The weather is fine and sunny this Saturaday morning and our first walk leads us to the famous „Getreidegasse“.

The name Getreidegasse does not mean „corn street“ as I heard it moreoften. The origin word is „trabig“ oder „eilig“ which means to be in a hurry. The street where people walk through fast. Millions of tourists do not allow to run through the Getreidegasse during season period!

The „Getreidegasse“ is situated between the Old Town Hall and the „Bürgerspitalskirche“. Craftsmen had their workshops here and the 4 to 5 floor high houses are sidaside to each other.
